Starting Playgroup or Nursery is a big step for little ones, and for parents too. A few small habits at home can make the first weeks much easier.
- Talk about school positively. Read picture books about the first day and drive past the school together.
- Practise short separations. Leave your child with a grandparent or relative for an hour or two.
- Build a routine. Regular bedtimes and breakfast times make early mornings calmer.
- Encourage independence. Let your child try opening a lunch box, putting on shoes and washing hands.
- Play with crayons, play dough and blocks. These build the hand strength needed for writing later.
- Speak and sing in English and Bangla. Rhymes and songs build vocabulary in both languages.
- Keep goodbyes short and cheerful. A quick hug and a promise to return works better than a long farewell.
What happens in our Pre-School
At Horizon, our youngest learners spend their days colouring, crafting, singing, gardening and playing on the lawn, with plenty of phonics and number fun along the way. Teachers keep parents updated so you always know how your child is settling in.
